The video of a shelter some Nigerians are living in at Mississauga in Canada goes viral.
In the video shared online, it was stated that it was in same shelter a young Nigerian died weeks ago. A Pastor who spoke in the video, noted that some Nigerians live in the shelter while waiting for an update on their asylum request to Canadian authorities.
They are also living in the shelters in spite of the unfavourable weather condition.
Don’t travel abroad without proper documentation – FG tells Nigerians
Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has warned Nigerians against travelling abroad illegitimately.
Dabiri-Erewa gave the advice when she visited some Nigerians in one of the shelters in Brampton, Canada. She sympathised with them and urged others planning to travel without proper documentation to desist as the situation is getting tougher in many countries.
Erewa said “It is just not worth it, more often than not.”
In a statement released by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the spokesman of NIDCOM, it was also noted that Vivian Eruka who runs the Bethel food bank and works with those in Shelters, informed that the Mayor of Brampton had promised to make 800 more beds and shelter available for the asylum seekers.
Mr Wale Rabiu, owner of Matlock bakery donated hundreds of loaves of bread to the shelter inmates.
