Skipping moisturizer, washing the face too frequently, or neglecting to remove makeup at the end of the day are common skincare mistakes that should be avoided.
Skincare is essential, but people often make mistakes that can harm their skin. Below are eight common errors and tips for improvement, as shared by Dr. Tran Hanh Vy of the Dermatology – Aesthetic Dermatology Department at Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital.
1. Not removing makeup thoroughly
Sleeping with makeup on can clog pores and cause acne. Make sure to remove makeup completely, cleanse your face, and take proper care of your skin before going to bed.
2. Washing the face too frequently
Washing your face too often can strip away natural oils and dry out the skin. Washing twice a day is sufficient. Use products suited for your skin type—whether dry, oily, or sensitive—to avoid irritation.
3. Over-exfoliating
Exfoliation helps cleanse the skin, but overdoing it can thin the skin and lead to irritation. Limit exfoliating to once or twice a week.

4. Not applying sunscreen
Failing to use sunscreen can result in increased wrinkles and pigmentation. Many people apply sunscreen only during summer, but UV rays are harmful year-round. Make sunscreen a daily habit, even in winter.
5. Skipping moisturizer
Some people think oily skin doesn’t need moisturizer. However, even oily skin requires hydration to maintain balance and prevent excessive oil production. Choose a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer for best results.
6. Neglecting the skin around the eyes
The skin around the eyes is delicate and requires special care. Use a specialized eye cream to help prevent dark circles and wrinkles.
7. Changing skincare products too frequently
Switching products too often without allowing time for adjustment is a common mistake. Be patient and give your skin at least four to six weeks to show results. Avoid products with alcohol as they can dry out and irritate the skin. Always check the ingredients before use.
8. Stress and insomnia
Stress and lack of sleep can adversely affect skin health. Developing habits to get enough sleep and manage stress is highly recommended.
