As the 2023 general election draws near, a political group under the aegis of Unified Northern Nigeria Youth Forum for Emefiele 2023 has called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to contest the office of President.
The Nasarawa State Coordinator of the group, Faruk Ofoku, made the call at a press conference in Lafia on Saturday.
He explained that the group, which comprises youths and women, decided to call on the CBN Governor to contest the 2023 presidency because it was time for Nigeria to have a youthful and energetic president who would be able to tackle the numerous problems confronting the nation.
He said, “The good people of Nasarawa state have benefited so much from the good stewardship of the current CBN Governor. His policies of diversification in solid mineral resources and agriculture created jobs, wealth and prosperity for many residents of the state.
“As the CBN Governor, he constructed a multi-billion naira CBN Branch in Lafia; our rice farmers also benefited from the N10 billion CBN anchor borrower scheme and he also released about N80 million for soft loans to cassava farmers, among other great interventions that our people have benefited from in Nasarawa state.
“We looked at all these economic and life saving interventions of Godwin Emefiele as the CBN Governor and we are happy with him for his efforts. That is why we are calling on him to, please, as a matter of urgency, declare to run for the office of President of Nigeria in 2023 because we want our economy to rejuvenate.”
