John Aniston, originally named Yannis Anastassakison, was born July 24, 1933 on the Greek island of Crete. At just two years old, his family immigrated to the United States, opening a Greek restaurant in Chester, Pennsylvania.

John Aniston died this Friday, November 11 at the age of 89. Apart from his career as a distinguished performer, part of his celebrity came from being the father of the great Jennifer Aniston.

But, above all of his acting roles, Aniston was known best for his role in the NBC soap opera ‘Days of Our Lives,’ where he worked from 1985, until near the end of his life.

John Aniston made some 3,000 episodes of ‘Days of Our Lives,’ and according to Variety, won an Emmy in 2006 for his role as Victor in this famed drama.

John and his first wife Nancy Dow, welcomed their daughter, Jennifer, in 1969. He would later have a second child, Alexander, with his second wife, Sherry Rooney (pictured), an actress from ‘Days of Our Lives.’
