- Josephine Jerotich was born with a congenital condition that resulted in her right hand being shorter than her left
- This physical difference has posed a constant challenge in her daily life, so much that she struggles with would-be simple tasks like buttoning a dress
- Unfortunately, this imbalance has become a major obstacle in Josephine’s pursuit of employment, despite her education and expertise in Nutrition and Dietetics
Josephine Jerotich from Eldoret has come forth to request for employment, explaining that finding a job has been difficult due to the fact that one of her hands is shorter.
The 26-year-old whose right hand is shorter than the left told TUKO.co.ke that it is a condition she was born with.
Having imbalanced arms is a struggle
Jerotich says that since childhood, she has encountered daily struggles with things that most people take for granted.
Everyday tasks, such as buttoning a dress or tying shoelaces, require extraordinary effort and creativity from her.
Even with the physical challenge, she still pursued her education and is currently studying for her diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics.
She disclosed that one of her biggest challenges is that she cannot comfortably handle some of the tasks that need energy.
“Its a struggle because I am not balanced. I used to struggle writing even in school, and during my KCSE exams I was given an extra hour to finish because I couldn’t cope with the rest,” she continued.
Jerotich is hopeful for work
The single woman who currently lives at her aunt’s place maintained that once she finds work, the other things like dating and motherhood will fall into place.
Jerotich hopes to find meaningful employment that will enable her to support herself and overcome the obstacles life has thrown her way.
“I have never let my disability define me, which is why I am reaching out to the community in the hopes that someone will give me an opportunity to prove my worth,” she concluded.
She is bullish that the disability has made her even more resourceful and creative and she always devices alternative ways to accomplish tasks and pursue her dreams.
Monicah Cheru’s story
Her story comes a few days after another woman questioned why no one seems interested in her services despite being a graduate and fully qualified.
Monicah Cheru’s journey into the world of physical disability started when she underwent a leg amputation following an accident.
She was lucky to hail from a family that offered her unwavering support, however, she’s gotten to a point where she’s breaking down due to the fact that she cannot seem to get a job.
“Did losing my leg made me lose my powers? Did it render me useless?” she asked painfully.
