A man from Kayole who goes by the name Mama Soweto has shared the story of his search for greener pastures in South Africa.
In an interview with JZ Zeki, Mama Soweto shared his experiences from being a gardener and caregiver to adapting to an unconventional way of life
He explained he was responsible for nursing and even massaging these elderly individuals.
“My work was to pick grapes and to give care to old men. I would nurse them and even massage them because they couldn’t allow women to massage those old men,” he revealed.
Why are you gay?
Faced with the harsh reality of survival in a foreign country, Mama Soweto made a difficult decision.
He turned into a gay as a means of securing a place to sleep at night.
According to the young man, his Zimbabwean friend advised him not to resist advances from men.
“But surviving in that land was not easy. It forced me to turn into a gay because getting accommodation was challenging, so I had to sleep with fellow men to get accommodation in the initial days. My friend from Zimbabwe advised me not to resist men’s advances in order to survive. But it is not a big deal there. It is being legalized,” he said.
