He was 34 years old and was one of the most recognizable figures in the world of bodybuilding, appearing to be at the height of physical fitness – Neil Currey’s passing has taken everyone by surprise.
After a brief investigation, authorities determined that the British bodybuilder took his own life, according to The Sun.
The announcement of Currey’s cause of death only added tragedy of the news and sent the world of bodybuilding, where Currey was a pillar, into mourning.
Fouad Abad, a well-known Canadian bodybuilder, said that “his work ethic was second to none and he had great untapped potential.”
For his part, Serbian Milos Sarvec said he didn’t understand what happened, considering that Currey was enjoying a high point in his career.
“My last and best memory of him was that smiling face after winning the New York Pro and realizing his dream of qualifying for the Mr. Olympia”, he assured on social media
In fact, among the messages that some of his colleagues shared on the networks, the most repeated was the allusion to his strong character as a fundamental element in his rapid rise to the top of bodybuilding.
Born in England, Neil Currey took a long time to become a professional bodybuilder, starting his career at the age of 28.
Despite this, in six years he managed to make a name for himself among the elite, gain the respect and admiration of his teammates and win numerous titles, as well as being considered a point of reference in his country.
An avid fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Flex Wheeler, the Brit followed in their footsteps and competed on the biggest stages on the planet, such as the New York Pro and the Puerto Rico Pro.
His victory at the New York Pro would be the zenith of his short career and the point that marked a real leap in quality (and notoriety).
It was his tours of Europe and Asia, however, that brought him fame and gave him the status of a world bodybuilding star.
He also participated in the world’s biggest bodybuilding competition, ‘Mr. Olympia’, where he placed 16th in the ‘Classic Physique’ category.
Unfortunately, Neil Currey’s death only confirms the black summer that the bodybuilding world has experienced.
In the span of just one month, Hugo Sergio Pereira lost his life in a fire in his apartment and Lisa Lyon lost her life to cancer. Three deaths that weigh heavily in the bodybuilding community.
