Cardi B has pulled out of the comedy film, Assisted Living, days before production was set to begin. The rapper turned actress has previously made waves for her small role as a stripper in the Jennifer Lopez-led hit, Hustlers. She also had a brief yet humorous cameo in F9the latest installment of The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Now, Deadline reports that Cardi B has backed out of her upcoming film, Assisted Living, days before production was supposed to begin. Those involved were told the film will be on an indefinite hold, effectively putting hundreds of members of the cast and crew out of work. It is reported that the reasoning for Cardi B’s backing out was due to the Grammy award-winning artist being overextended.

 

The raunchy comedy follows small-time crook Amber (Cardi B) who must go on the run after a heist goes wrong, leaving her accused for a crime she didn’t commit. She must escape the cops and her former crew by disguising herself as an elderly woman and hiding out in her estranged grandmother’s assisted living facility. The film has been described as a mix between Sister Act and the Robin Williams classic, Mrs. Doubtfire.

Produced by Paramount, Assisted Living was to be directed by Thembi Banks, her first feature film at a major studio after stints on the small screen with Brooklyn Nine-NineInsecure, and Work in Progress. Penned by This is Us writer Kay Oyegun, the original spec script was caught in a competitive bidding war resulting in a high six-against-seven figure deal for Paramount. Due to the late departure by Cardi B, it is possible for the the rapper to face legal ramifications for her actions.
