Jamie Carragher believes Man City will drop points before the season ends so the Premier League title race is “not lost” for Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp‘s side dropped points on Saturday evening against Tottenham Hotspur. They fell behind in the second half but Luis Diaz’s deflected effort earned them a point.
Pep Guardiola’s team have played one game less. They face Newcastle United at the Etihad on Sunday.
Man City’s other remaining games are against Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa. Liverpool meanwhile face Villa, Chelsea and Southampton.
Speaking on the title race, Carragher said he expects City to drop points against either Wolves or West Ham:
“It’s not lost. I always thought both team would drop points,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I always felt this was the real danger game for Liverpool, with the way they play. Son [Heung-min] and [Harry] Kane on the counter-attack, that was proven in the game.
“It was a really good game. Spurs and [Antonio] Conte, they’re a proper outfit, they really are. It was always going to be a tough game.
“I don’t think today will be a problem [for Man City, against Newcastle] but I do look at the away games at Wolves and West Ham, I do think Man City will drop points in one of those two games.
“Where Liverpool dropped points, obviously they can afford to do it. Dropping points in two games, possibly not.”
Speaking on Man City, Carragher added: “No disrespect to Newcastle, we’re talking about them coming here to one of the best teams in world football.
“They [City] had that boost last night. Having the title in their hands, I don’t see them slipping up today.
“From a Liverpool point of view, I don’t think it’s about Manchester City winning. Obviously you want them to drop points.
“The goal difference could come into it if Man City drop points down the line. So if they won 1-0, I’d probably take that!”
