In a significant step towards strengthening Nigeria’s workforce, the Cross River State Microfinance and Enterprise Development Agency (MEDA) has joined forces with the Federal Government. This collaboration will empower 5,000 youths across the country annually with vital skills to contribute to the national economy’s growth.
MEDA Director-General Leads the Charge
Great Ogban, Director-General of MEDA, met with Abiola Arogundade, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (SSAP-TVEE). This meeting underscores the national focus on empowering Nigeria’s workforce.
“A strong and skilled workforce is the bedrock of Nigeria’s future,” said Mr. Ogban. “We are grateful for the leadership of SSAP-TVEE Abiola Arogundade. MEDA is fully committed to working together to ensure Cross River State is at the forefront of this crucial initiative.”
Commissioner Highlights Skill Acquisition for Wealth Creation
Patrick Egbede, Cross River State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, also joined the meeting. He commended the SSAP-TVEE initiative, emphasizing the critical role of skill acquisition in wealth creation. “In any economy,” Commissioner Egbede remarked, “having the right skills is a key pathway to building wealth. This program offers a fantastic opportunity for our youth to gain the knowledge and expertise they need to succeed.”
Governor Otu’s “People First” Mandate in Action
This partnership aligns perfectly with the “People First” mandate of Governor Bassey Otu’s administration. It prioritizes collaboration with the citizenry to drive economic growth. The Federal Government’s program for technical and vocational skills acquisition, along with entrepreneurship education, finds a willing partner in Cross River State.
Cross River Selected for Pilot Program
The State’s proactive approach, spearheaded by Director-General Ogban, has positioned Cross River as the pilot location for this program. This collaboration signifies a unified effort between the state and federal government to equip Nigerians with the skills they need to thrive in the job market.
Equipping Youths for Success
The program will offer participants hands-on training in practical skills like tailoring, shoemaking, poultry farming, aquaculture, basic ICT, barbering, carpentry, welding, liquid soap and disinfectant production, laundry services, and business management.
Governor Bassey Otu’s unwavering commitment to a thriving Cross River State plays a critical role in making this collaboration possible. This initiative empowers Cross River’s youth and strengthens Nigeria’s workforce for the future.
