Davido also said he’s currently working on two albums, adding that one is for the African audience, while the other is for his American fans
Ace Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has corrected the impression that he is just the leader of Afrobeats music in the United States, insisting he is the leader of the genre globally.
The ‘Electricity’ crooner made this known during a recent interview with Billboard’s Nadine Graham.
It all started when the interviewer labelled the DMW boss as leader of Afrobeats in the United States.
Responding, Davido interrupted saying he does not just lead the genre in America but “everywhere.”
He went on to say as global leader of Afrobeats, he wants people to look forward to good music saying “it’s crazy, because people in jail have heard my music.”
The singer further disclosed that he is currently working on two albums, explaining that one would be for the African audience and the other for the American audience.
Davido also revealed his favorite collaboration is ‘2 AM’ with Casanova and Tory Lanez because the record bridged Canadian, Nigerian and American cultures.
His comment comes after another popular Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, incurred the wrath of netizens after warning his fans not to expect Afrobeats genre when listening to his new project, saying he is not an Afrobeats artiste.
He also urged fans of Afrobeats music not to download his new album, so that they don’t get disappointed when they listen to it.
Speaking via his Instagram page, Wizkid said: “Album done! See you soon b*tches!
“And abeg if you like Pakurumo Wizkid, don’t download this new album. In fact, delete me from your playlist and your life!
“If you like Afrobeats, don’t download my album. I’m not a f*cking Afrobeats artiste. I am not Afro anything.”
