Deep brain stimulation (DBS) will continue to see high usage in Parkinson’s disease (PD), as it can improve motor symptoms and presents a lower risk compared to approved drugs, according to a BMI report.
The report said DBS could support significant improvement in motor symptoms for PD including tremors, rigidity, and dyskinesia.
As for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), DBS use will be limited as it is most effective in early-stage patients. Early detection of AD is a key barrier to treatment given there is no approved blood-based biomarker test for AD.
