Some Nigerian footballers have joined their voices in calling on the Nigerian Football Federation to pay outstanding allowances owned by members of the Super Falcons.
This comes after the body that represents professional footballers, FIFPRO announced in a statement that it will assist Nigeria’s women’s senior team, the Super Falcons players in getting their outstanding bonus payments, camp allowances, and other expenses from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
After the Falcons’ exit from the ongoing tournament, FIFPRO said it’s regrettable that players will have to go after the NFF to get what is due to them.
The football body stated that it would do everything possible to make sure every money owed was paid.
The FIFpro’s statement was also shared on Instagram by Super Falcons forward, Asisat Oshoala.
In the comment session, Napoli and Super Eagles striker wrote: “Pay them NFF”.
Former Everton striker, Victor Anichebe, replied to the post with: “NFF pay them! They did us all proud! And even if they didn’t. Pay them what they are owed!!!”
Ex-Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, said: “NFF never stop these things.”
In June, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation Dr. Mohammed Sanusi told the Falcons that their match bonuses of £15,760 (AUS$30,000) for participation in the group stages of the tournament had been cancelled by the federation.
During the lead-up to the World Cup, Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum also revealed that some players are owed “per diem and bonuses” from two years ago.
The claims almost affected the preparation of the Nigerian players for the tournament.
After their final group game of the World Cup, FIFA Secretary-General, Fatma Samoura disclosed to the Nigerian women’s team that they will get their prize money for participating in the 2023 Women’s World Cup directly from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA).
“It is because of you (the Super Falcons) that for the first time in the history of FIFA, the Women’s World Cup prize money will be paid directly to you, the players,” Samoura said in a video posted by UK-based Nigerian journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana.
