“Be the designer of your own destiny” – Oscar De La Renta
Yeah, he’s a new kid on the block with enough up his sleeves to give his musical career the beautiful design that is his dream and further excite the Nigerian music terrain. He is called ‘Weflo’.
He studied Urban and regional planning at the University of Lagos and is now focused on making headway with what he loves most – music.
Frank Nkogbu Ikenna aka ‘Weflo’ hails from the coal city of Enugu, is single and not searching. The versatile Afro pop artiste had wanted to be a pilot but his love for music wouldn’t let that be. Impacting lives is also a deep passion with the artiste and the one way he intends to achieve this is through his music.
The second of five children, ‘Weflow’s style of music is Afro pop infused with local dialect. The artiste who says money was not a motivating factor going into music, was inspired early in life by Onyeka Onwenu and Osita Osadebe but the biggest influence in his career, he says are Phyno, Flavor, Tuface, Wizkid and Davido.
With a number of tracks in his kitty to be released, ‘Weflo’ has done a track – formula – with Orisha Femi and has also done a video shoot on the track ‘Dance’, which was directed by Paul Gambit and released in December 2016.
According to ‘Weflo’, the Nigerian music industry, though a thriving one is full of many fake people; a situation which has bred untrustworthiness, saying there still remains much to be done especially in the area of piracy where other people are making money from musicians’ intellectual properties.
The handsome, soft-spoken but focused crooner has one regret or ugly experience so far; when he gave his CD to a club DJ who collected it from him and then tossed it aside. That, he said just ruined his entire day and posed a big discouragement but he had to take it in his stride and believe for the sky.
‘Weflo’ who says he has a hundred percent backing of his parents in his music career, has a number of works yet to be developed and is also working on a few collabos on the Olo Empire Entertainment.
Apparently, one man ‘Weflo’ admits to be his idol is none other than the one beside whom he poses here-Richard Mofe Damijo.
The design’ Weflo’ infers here is not RMD’s fashion style but that of his musical career and life generally.
And true enough, everyone becomes a designer of his or her life at some point, which comes into reckoning when the chips are down.
Gifted!!!!
