Kamala Harris has finally phoned Donald Trump to concede the US presidential election hours after her devastating defeat was confirmed.
During their conversation, the vice president discussed with Trump the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a president for all Americans, a senior Harris aide said, confirming that Harris will deliver remarks in Washington later Wednesday.

Trump now has 292 electoral votes to Harris’ 224. It takes 270 to win the presidency.
Trump is the first president in over 130 years and only the second in history to win a non-consecutive second term.
Exit polls show his victory came after he made gains with nearly every voting bloc he lost in the 2020 election and put together a coalition of multi-ethnic working-class voters.

President Joe Biden called Donald Trump to congratulate him on his victory Wednesday and invited his Republican successor to hold a meeting in the “near future,” the White House stated, according to AFP.
During the call, “President Biden expressed his dedication to ensuring a seamless transition and highlighted the importance of fostering unity across the nation,” as noted in a White House statement.
Biden also reached out to Vice President Kamala Harris, commending her for a historic campaign. The statement further noted that the president is set to address the nation on Thursday, during which he will speak on the election results and transition plans.
Earlier, Vice President Harris had called Trump to officially concede and to discuss the process for a peaceful transfer of power. As the Democratic candidate, Harris acknowledged Trump’s victory and reinforced the importance of a smooth transition between administrations.
Trump’s victory was confirmed on Wednesday after he surpassed the pivotal 270 electoral college votes required. As reported by the BBC, Harris’s conversation with Trump stressed the importance of a peaceful transition and the duty of a president to represent all Americans.
Vice President Harris is expected to address the public in remarks scheduled for later today at Howard University.
Following his win, Trump, the Republican nominee, has secured his place as the 47th President of the United States.
