The Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, will be its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.

Obi, who contested under the LP in 2023, lost to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), finishing third behind former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, declared that Tinubu would face a tougher challenge in the next election.

“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027, we are coming back with that Peter Obi to them so that they will know we are very serious,” he said.

Arabambi also addressed the recent resignation of actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo from the party, dismissing his departure as inconsequential.

“And we wish Kenneth Okonkwo well, his resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” he stated.

He refuted claims of internal crises within the party, maintaining that LP remains a strong force ahead of the next elections. “There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. Labour Party is not going into extinction. It is just a figment of the imaginations of most of our detractors,” Arabambi asserted.
