Last night saw the US presidential race‘s second debate between Joe Biden and conspiracy theory tweeter, Donald Trump. They hashed out a bunch of issues – in a far calmer manner than their previous meeting – from COVID to immigration detention centres. At the end of their lively discussion, both the Democratic party and Republican party leaders’ respective wives joined them on stage.
As we’ve all become accustomed to (right?), there was a suitably *awkward* interaction between Trump and Melania, who was recently overheard complaining about having to decorate the White House at Christmas. After posing for a quick photo op with her husband after the debate, Trump reached for Melania’s hand as they walked off stage together… and once again, she swerved his advances.
If you’d like to witness the deeply uncomfortable moment for yourself, you can do so right here:
Other key take homes from the debate (as reported by the BBC) included Trump promising a vaccine for COVID-19 would be ready “in weeks” and again boasted that he was now “immune” to the virus, which has so far claimed 1.14 million lives globally. Biden was also seen accused of personally profiting from his son Hunter’s business dealings in Ukraine and China, which he strongly denied.
Many people in the UK are deeply invested in the outcome of the US election, in part due to the way American culture directly influences our own lives here in Great Britain (anyone else grow up watching American shows, listening to US music and wishing desperately that they could go to New York?). It’s thought that over 45 million citizens have already cast their vote.
A previous video of Melania pushing her husband’s hand away as she descended the stairs of an aeroplane also went viral not long ago… Supporters of the couple theorised she made the move as she was struggling to keep her outfit from blowing in the wind while navigating the stairs. Others say she just isn’t keen on PDAs with her tumeric-tinged husband.
TBH we’ll probably never know – but will continue enjoying the clips regardless
