A Nigerian government official, Shamsideen Abayomi Alamu, has been murdered by kidnappers and his body is still missing days after he was killed.
Alamu, the Assistant Chief Surveyor in the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF), was abducted on October 3 near Yakwo Farms in Abaji while returning to Abuja from Iwo after attending a wedding ceremony.
Head of Press OSGoF, Abu Michael said the late official was kidnapped alongside his mother and 7-year-old son, Abdulhaq Alamu.
They were in a Toyota Corolla with registration number RSH 661NY when the assailants emerged from the bush and shot at them.
Michael confirmed that Abayomi was murdered on October 6 while his mum and son regained freedom the next day.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 11, the spokesperson informed the public that efforts are on to find the body.
He said: “On receiving the news of his abduction, the Surveyor General of the Federation, Abudulganiyu Adebomehin and his management team swooped into action.
“The Office reliably gathered that he was killed on Thursday before the release of his mother and son on Friday through the intervention of family members, friends and other relatives.”
Michael added that security agencies are working towards recovering Abayomi’s remains and urged cirizens to provide useful information to the police.
After her release, Alamu’s mother, Alhaja Afusat Alamu revealed that the gunmen demanded N50million but only N2.35million was raised which the captors collected.
Abayomi, an indigene of Iwo in Osun State, was recruited into the Federal Civil Service on December 9, 2013.
