Porsche has unveiled a Speedster version of its striking Vision 357 concept, to mark the German sports car brand’s 75th Anniversary.
On show at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, the stunning drop-top concept is based on the 918 GT4 e-Performance prototype, which develops 800kW and features a dual-motor set up.
This makes the 357 Speedster good enough for a rapid 0-62mph time of well below 3.0sec.
The 82kWh battery found in the GT4, is split into various packs for better weight distribution. There are a number of packs placed in the ‘frunk’, in the transmission tunnel, and behind the driver. This set-up has likley been carried over for the 357 Speedster.
While Porsche hasn’t fully disclosed the Speedster’s weight, the 357 is expected to come in slightly higher – being a show car – than its technically related GT4 e-Performance sibling, weighing around 1600kg.
Inside, Porsche has designed the car to be “fully tailored to the driver”, and features a single carbonfirbre bucket seat. In fact, the seat has been integrated into the Speedster monocoque, with the driver sitting on Racetex pads and strapped in by a six-point harness finished in Miami Blue.
Sitting on top of the steering column is a trans parent digital instrument cluster and racing steering wheel, with the entire dashboard made from exposed carbon fibre.
The Vision 357 is heavily inspired by the German brand’s original 356 Speedster which launched in the mid-1950s. This is shown by the new concepts sleek silhouette and sloping front and rear end.
Despite sharing much of its designed with its coupe sibling, the Vision 357 Speedster is shorter than the car it based on, and features a blue and silver 75th Anniversary livery.
The new concept makes its public debut at this year’s Festival of Speed, at which the brand will be hosting its 75th anniversary celebrations.
