Wantaway Man Utd superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is close to signing for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, according to reports.
The Portugal international has asked the Premier League club’s hierarchy to accept any ‘satisfactory’ offers for him this summer as he looks to force his way out of Old Trafford this summer.
Ronaldo has missed training all week for ‘family reasons’ as speculation continues to build over this future at the club and where he could move next.
Chelsea, Napoli, Roma and Bayern Munich have all been linked with possible moves for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner with reports claiming he is looking to leave Man Utd to play in the Champions League and win trophies.
Ronaldo has been unconvinced by United’s start to the summer transfer window with Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia the only new addition to Erik ten Hag’s squad.
Bayern were particularly heavily linked when the news broke that Ronaldo wanted to leave Old Trafford but the Bundesliga club’s chief executive Oliver Kahn seemed to rule out a transfer.
“As much as I appreciate Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the greatest (footballers ever), a transfer would not fit into our philosophy,” Kahn told Kicker.
While a Man Utd source informed the media that Ronaldo was not for sale, they said: “Despite some news reported, there has been no change of position by the club on Cristiano Ronaldo. He has another year on his contract and is not for sale.”
However, Italian publication TuttoMercatoWeb claims that Ronaldo ‘has chosen’ to join Bayern Munich this summer with the ‘denials’ just a ‘media strategy’ from both clubs.
The move is still dependent on Robert Lewandowski leaving Bayern for Barcelona this summer as they two clubs continue to negotiate an acceptable price.
Barcelona’s latest €40m bid has been rejected by the Bavarians who are looking for a deal around €50m but Lewandowski is ‘pressing on the club to try to close quickly’.
It is understood that Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes is ‘patiently weaving the canvas’ as he looks to get the Man Utd striker playing in the Champions League next season.
