In May 2020, Rose quit the TV series after just one season and didn’t initially give a definitive reason behind her departure.
Her character was subsequently written out of the series and replaced with new one named Ryan Wilder, portrayed by Javicia Leslie.
In August last year, Rose called being the lead of a series “taxing” and stated her back surgery following the injury was a contributing factor in deciding to leave.
However, she has now revealed it was due to the tight black costume and her allergy to latex.
“I did find out that I was allergic to latex,” she said during an appearance on KIIS The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
“Unfortunately, my mask is latex. I was getting worse and worse, because as you get more contact with it, I guess you get more reactions.”
Rose added that the final straw for her was when she started to look and feel bad.
“I took off the [mask] at the end, and my face was just hives. My throat was all messed up,” she explained.
“It was like it was out of a scary movie,” she added, before confirming that she consumed a lot of Benadryl on set.
Rose’s comments come after she previously said during a press interview for Batwoman: “Ask anyone that’s ever played a superhero or villain or anything with that kind of costume, [the costumes are] not fun.”
The role of Kate Kane has since been taken over by 26-year-old English actress Wallis Day.
“Super excited to finally announce I’m joining the cast of Batwoman,” Day wrote on Instagram.
“I’m sure you can imagine how much this means to me and how incredible it’s been working on the show so far.”
The second season of Batwoman premiered on January 17, 2021, and a third season has also been ordered and set to premiere on October 13, 2021.
