Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila insists that probe of Nigerian Correctional Service under Aregbesola has nothing to do with Tinubu

Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila has insisted that the resolution to investigate the state of Nigerian Correctional Service under the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola has nothing to do with the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu.

LIB had reported that the lower chamber of the national assembly took the decision after a motion under matters of national importance sponsored by House Minority Leader, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu, was adopted at the plenary presided by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday February 16.

The House minority leader who noted that the NCS has not lived up to expectations in spite of the enactment of the Nigeria Correctional Service Act 2019 which prioritized the welfare of its officers and men in line with international best practices, alleged that despite the increase in budgetary allocations to the Nigerian Correctional Service to drive its renewed mandate, the tempo and quality of the Service have remained the same if not retrogressing.

The Delta-born lawmaker also claimed that the working conditions of Staff and inmates’ welfare have deteriorated notwithstanding the over N165Billion budget allocations to the Service in the last two years.

However some Nigerians were quick to point out that the probe is coming days after Aregbesola publicly slammed his longtime political associates, former Lagos state Governor and All Progressives Congress national leader, Bola Tinubu, Former Governor of Osun state, Bisi Akande, and current Governor of Osun state, Gboyega Oyetola.

Gbajabiamila insisted that it has nothing to do the face-off between the former political associates, in reaction to a matter of privilege raised by a representative Onofiok Luke who was furious with reports suggesting that the House’s resolution to investigate the state of the Nigerian Correctional Service was a political move by the Speaker against the interior minister.
