President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the national honor of Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) posthumously on the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Taoreed Lagbaja. The award was presented during his funeral ceremony held at the National Cemetery in Mogadishu, Abuja, on Friday, November 15.
In his tribute, President Tinubu described the late COAS as a trusted advisor and a man of prudent action who prioritized the nation and the well-being of those under his command.
“Throughout his military career, his legacy of service will be cherished forever,” Tinubu said. “As an eternal symbol of our appreciation, I’ve granted the late Chief of Army Staff the posthumous national honor of Commander of the Federal Republic.”
Tinubu noted that General Lagbaja was one of his best appointments and lauded his unwavering faith in the armed forces.
“While we are saddened by his passing, we still celebrate his life. We must rededicate ourselves to the principles and love for the nation for which he stood. For his courage, sacrifice, and leadership, General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja will forever reside in the pantheon of military greats,” the president added.
The president praised Lagbaja’s understanding of the military’s role in safeguarding Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and commended his valor and dedication to the welfare of the rank and file.
