The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has ordered around 936,500 migrants who entered the country through the Biden-era CBP One app to leave. The app, designed to manage asylum requests at the southern border, allowed migrants to schedule appointments for entry into the U.S. Under the new policy, these migrants, who were granted temporary status and work permits, are now told to leave or face deportation and a permanent ban on reentry.

Launched in 2020 and expanded in 2023, the CBP One app had been a key part of managing border entries. However, it has faced criticism, with some arguing it led to higher border crossings. Migrants affected by this new directive are encouraged to voluntarily depart using the updated CBP Home app, with non-compliance possibly leading to removal and permanent reentry bans.
