Vatican Hosts World Leaders as Akpabio, Others Arrive for Pope Francis’ Funeral

The Vatican City became the epicenter of global mourning as world leaders, dignitaries, and religious figures gathered on Thursday for the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis.

Among those in attendance was Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who led a delegation of top Nigerian officials to pay their final respects to the late pontiff. Akpabio was seen arriving at St. Peter’s Basilica alongside other international leaders and representatives of various faith communities.

Pope Francis, who passed away at the age of [insert age], was globally revered for his humility, commitment to social justice, and efforts to bridge divides across cultures and religions. His funeral drew an outpouring of tributes from across the world, reflecting his influence as a spiritual leader and advocate for peace.

Security around the Vatican was tight, with thousands of mourners also filling the square to witness the historic event. Bells tolled across Rome as the funeral procession began, marking the end of an era in the Catholic Church.

Pope Francis’ burial is expected to take place in the Vatican Grottoes beneath St. Peter’s Basilica, where many former pontiffs have also been laid to rest.
