BYD aims to produce luxury cars
BYD, the Chinese carmaker known for producing affordable electric cars, has announced plans to debut in the luxury car market with a new brand. Among the high-end vehicles expected to be part of the new line-up is the YangWang U9 luxury sports car, for which BYD has announced astonishing performance.
A zero-emission powertrain with over 1,000 hp
The YangWang U9 uses a zero-emission powertrain with more than 1,000 hp, driven by four engines, one at each wheel, guaranteeing unprecedented performance. The car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than two seconds and has a range of around 700 km.
Sophisticated active suspension
The active suspension technology of the YangWang U9, called Disus-X, is described by the company as the most sophisticated in the world and is based on various systems that regulate damper damping, ground clearance and car movements.
Impressive videos
BYD posted two impressive videos on Twitter (@BYDGlobal) to demonstrate the potential of its active suspension, which allows the YangWang U9 to travel without a wheel and jump a few centimetres off the ground.
The Disus-C, Disus-A and Disus-P system
The Disus-C system makes it possible to adjust the damping of the air damper by acting on the solenoid valve, while the Disus-A system acts on the ground clearance with a range of 15 centimetres. The Disus-P system, on the other hand, represents the ‘first hydraulic control system for the entire car’ and is able to act on various parameters so quickly that the car can make real leaps, allowing it to lift all four wheels simultaneously by a few centimetres.
30 months of development
BYD developed the Disus-X system over 30 months and travelled 10 million kilometres to test its endurance. The technology, which can be improved via software with over-the-air updates, has passed the toughest endurance tests.
